When was the last time a vacation took your breath away?
We all have certain motivations and goals for heading out on vacation. For some of us it’s to see more of the world. For some it’s to experience a fun time with friends. For some it’s to relax. For almost everyone it’s to get away from the regular 9-5 working life that can constrict us if we’re not given a lengthy and wonderful break.
However, when was the last time a vacation left you speechless? You might find this question hard to answer. It’s not a particularly easy one to think of. Usually being left speechless happens when we’ve been wowed by some aesthetic beauty, or been exposed to something we haven’t for some time or ever at all. Our cognitive processes might not even fire in the same manner as we usually do when forming memories. So I ask again, when was the lat time a place left you speechless?
If you answered ‘I can’t remember’ to this question, you might have some real work to do. By work, I of course mean visiting a new destination that allows you to answer this question immediately. Consider visiting the following places and you’ll have plenty of these ideas to draw on:
There’s almost nothing better than a Thanda Safari for feeling stunned at the complexity and beauty of life on this Earth. Heading to the cradle of humanity in Africa and witnessing the movements of the animals in person is a trip you’ll never forget. For myself seeing these animals roaming free in a land so different than our own was one that was truly mesmerizing. Not only will you see animal royalty face to face, but you’ll see the wide-open African savannah, some of the most impressive and artificially captured views anywhere in the world. A safari is a much more affecting and memorable trip than simply heading to the warmest beach you know of. If you choose the right safari operator you can also make sure that your exploration through Africa is 100% sustainable and helps with animal conservation.
If you’re looking for landscapes more in touch with what you know, you might try the beautiful rolling hills and black beaches of Iceland, the mystifying beauty of the Canary Islands or head to Norway for an extremely gorgeous view of the Northern Lights. If you’re a reader of Jr Tolkien novels, you might head to the rolling Yorkshire Dalea that Tolkien often credited as his inspiration for Hobbiton, the storied and famous location in his Lord of the Rings series. When witnessing rolling hills like this, you can be sure that you’ll have plenty to visually take in and reflect on.
The natural wonders of the world are named that for a reason. There are also some that you might consider adding to your personal wonder list. There’s no reason why you can’t add or subtract wonders from your loving view, after all. It might be that you travel to the Taj Mahal and then travel to the Lighthouse of Alexandria and the Statue of Zeus within one trip. It might be the rolling lengths of a pilgrimage route that brings you this sense of wonder, or simply standing in the hills, witnessing the life of the city or town before you. Besides the 7 wonders of the world most countries also have wonders of their own, like the Blue Hole in Belize, The Grand Canyon in America and the isles of the Azores in Portugal. Wherever you choose to go on your next vacation, get out of your comfort zone and pick a place that will take your breath away.
